Insert cliché here of a fresh-faced (clean shaven) Michael running around with the family Super 8 camera making home movies…well, actually it’s kinda true. Michael has had a love of films and filmmaking from an early age growing up in Tasmania, the southern most state of Australia (yes, where the Tasmanian Devil comes from!).

After winning the Tasmanian Television Award for his high school productions, Michael moved to Canberra, the nation’s capital, where he completed a BA degree in Communications (Media).  Soon after graduating, he scored a job as a Commercial Producer at Channel Nine, Canberra, being one of the youngest ever producers to take up that role.

Soon after moving to Sydney, Michael made his short film debut; the atmospheric and suspense INTERCHANGE, produced in collaboration with Sydney based production company More Sauce. To date, the film has screened at over 30 film festivals worldwide and received a slate of awards including BEST FILM at the Eye Scream Halloween Film Festival (AUS), BEST THRILLER at the Int. Festival of Cinema & Technology (USA), BEST EDITING at the Fearless Tales Film Festival (USA) and Michael receiving the GREAT EXPECTATIONS award at the SOUR GRAPES FILM FESTIVAL (AUS).

At this time Michael met writer/producer Edmund Jory and so began a fruitful creative collaboration and geek-out over their shared love of movies. In 2009 they established HIGH NOON FILMS, a production company dedicated to developing film, television and online based productions. Their first project; a fantasy black comedy titled DEATH IN THE GARDEN was based on an ancient fable about fate and destiny.

DITG found success on the international festival circuit, including screening at COMIC-CON, the largest comic and popular culture convention in the world. DITG was also a FANTASY FINALIST at Dragon*Con, as well as winning SILVER at the Australian Cinematographers Society NSW Awards for cinematographer Nicola Daley.

DITG was closely followed by the TV pilot DON’T TURN OUT THE LIGHT, a docu-drama series re-creating chilling encounters with the paranormal.  During this time Michael also directed a number of TV commercials as well as worked as a video editor to bring home the bacon.

Inspired by their fascination of things that go bump in the night, Michael and Edmund have written a supernatural thriller feature screenplay titled MALEVOLENT, influenced by classic ghost stories such as The Woman in Black and The Turn of the Screw. They are also developing a crime thriller feature screenplay title STOMPING GROUND.

Michael’s most recent film, KILL SWITCH, draws on classic comic book elements, presenting a dark origin story from the villain's perspective. The film was shot in Sydney with post completed in LA, where he is now a resident. Completed mid-2013, KILL SWITCH has found success on the genre-festival circuit, being accepted into seven festivals so far and premiering at the Dragon Con Film Festival.

Michael has recently completed his feature debut, LOS ANGELES OVERNIGHT, an L.A. Noir/Thriller starring Peter Bogdanovich (The Last Picture Show) and Lin Shaye (INSIDIOUS). The film is set for release early 2018.

Michael is developing a number of projects, working with new collaborators as he splits his time between Sydney and Los Angeles.

That’s the story so far…with more adventures to come.
